In the past 3 weeks I have been watching monarch butterflies hug the shoreline of Long Island, New York, on their way west, first to the mainland (New York), then , as I am told, south - on their way to Mexico. They fly alone, or in twos or threes winging blythly along in the fall breezes, shining brightly under the Indian summer's sun. only 1500 miles or so to go. I wonder how long it will take, and just marvel at the miracle of this tiny creature.
